Monday I sleep soundly though Dan does not. Its not a long sail from Victoria Harbor to Seattle, yet the 11:00 p.m. Unmooring and early mooring did not permeate my sleep! We rise quickly because we must get off the ship at 8:50. The dining room is only half open, the other side dark. The tables are tight. Good thing I have preplanned, because the water, coffee, pastry persons all descend upon us at once. May I please have the half grapefruit. Buckwheat pancakes and turkey bacon? Yes? Oh Thank you! Dan has the southwestern  omelette and corned beef broil with his daily raisin bun;) Then we wave good bye in a harbor selfie and exit via gangplank. We flash our passports, collect two suitcases and walk to S where our van awaits us. We are transported to the Armory parking lot and we head south on I-5.

Sunday

We slept deeply, only a minor wakeful period at three, coughing hoarsely. I awake at 8, shower and rouse Dan. All shades of grey envelop us: sea, waves, sky, fog, awareness of our last 24 hours. We eat the Full English breakfast, sharing banger, and egg. I love the beans and broiled tomato with rasher and egg, a bowl of berries. We walk our mile with the Walk for the Cure participants. We expressed interest but never signed up. The walk was pleasant with nifty fifty tunes.. Dan feels tired enough he wants to nap. In the explorers lounge i read Doig and he slumbers. It is Sunday and the text is John 4:5-42 about the woman at the well. Aside from meditation the narrative by Jan Richardson is rich in water imagery. Blessing of the Well If you stand at the edge of this blessing and call down into it, you will hear your words return to you. (Help!) If you lean in and listen close, you will hear this blessing give the story of your life back to you. ( I will car

I  Saturday in Ketchikan  Up at six, only one snooze button today because  Breakfast is at 6:30. Its partially cloudy and dry here.  For breakfast I order the Swedish pancakes w berry compote, turkey bacon and a half pink grapefruit. At 7:50 we meet at pier two for 8:00 depart For Harriet Hunt Lake canoeing and hiking. It was GREAT! 6 couples loaded into a red cedar canoe and we paddled around Blueberry Island, drew into shore tor a snack of homemade clam chowder and sourdough bread with raspberry jam and smoked salmon. We had a short hike and were introduced to several native species. I enjoyed ' bear bread' the fungi that bears eat before hibernating. We walked around town past the Pioneer Cafe and Creek Street where we purchased a coffee mug. Salmon was the art which exemplifies Determination, Renewal and Prosperity. We board at 12, leaving outer layers in our cabin and head to the Lido for salads and an 'Icy Glacier' draft beer from Alaska Brewing. I for

Friday

Set a 7:15 alarm and its worth it! I jump into last night's dancin clothes, grab a coat and dash outdoors. Gasp! We are tying up in beautiful albeit monochromatic Sitka. I love Sitka with its small spruce studded harbor islands. (Dan is running a low grade fever, and he didn't sleep well.) he didn't jump up:-/ The first sights to arrive on my retina is a light- house and a female eagle atop her nest!!! I did not think to snap that picture! Dan showers for breakfast. I request a half grapefruit, crab eggs Benedict and a tasty bran muffin. Dan chooses the skillet. Everything he orders comes with taco chips;) wah wah We debark and catch a bus from Halibut Bay mooring into Sitka. Theres a bit of drizzle, which clears. We head to Tsongass Threads and Dan heads to the pharmacy for aspirin. I am quick to acquire a cotton nightie for $5.99 and we're off to scavenge the gift shops! I buy salmonberry jelly and blueberry jam, huckleberry pancake mix a crab tea towel and

Thursday

Thursday Awaken just before 8. Dan turns on the tv to see the bow. Ode to Joy serenades us in audio. We linger and head to breakfast at 9:00. It's Hubbard Glacier Day!! A light breakfast suits me fine: yogurt berry parfait and a croissant w strawberry jam. Over coffee we study the NY times and today's itinerary. After days, i need a parfum fix! Cupcake shaped fragrance caught my eye. The blue studded one especially;) we moved on until Chanel Bleu met my glazed eyes. Blue the perfect scent for a glacier day. Pssst. All set now! We settle in the Explorers Lounge to await the Ketchikan presentation at 11:00.  Not so cleverly disguised as 'all about diamonds' ;-( Then we broke out of salad rut and ordered burgers at the Dive In! Also a couple of Alaska beers keeping with the theme;) Icy Bay IPA;) ya Slowly the flat foggy sea sprouted a few low cliffs of green, then towering mountains enveloped in glacial river and heavy clouds. Ice masses bobbed in a frigid green

Wednesday Awake to plugged nostrils at four. Blow and read while Dan dozes. "Stir up in--------, the gift of------." A Strange phrase from the past permeates the space.(me.  Compassion.) Dan wakes me at 8:30,after  a quick shower and we arrive at breakfast. I'm having caffeine;) half grapefruit, forest mushroom eggs benedict and a chocolate croissant. Dan doesnt order as well so he gets half the egg dish in exchange for a slice of turket bacon which I glaze with apricot jam. Yumm We hang out on deck watching the shores as we pull into Juneau. At 11 we attend the culinary arts cooking salmon show. It's back outdoors to read and off to lunch at 12:30. We ate by the pool from the salad bar. Mine is a chicken Caesar with artichoke hearts, kidney beans and mac nuts, a bit eclectic:)then Dan and I share a serving of ricotta spinach lasagna. Its so so. Juneau is beautiful; sunny and sixty five. We have a walking tour scheduled at 2:30, just enough time to scour '

Tuesday

Tuesday Sleep long. . . Up twice to pee. We got to turn our clocks back and gained an hour.  As much as I coughed in the night, and had a bloody nose at 5 am, i dressed quickly and felt rested and fit as a fiddle! Our bath has a tub! Breakfast in the dining room. Garden frittata, grapefruit juice and turkey bacon. Dan says 'He loves my spirit!' In cubbie 3424 we plan our day: 10:15 Kitchen tour Then Dan needs a nap. . .  I am reading Mrs Peregrine Home for Peculiar Children. Se try the lap thing but it 36mph windy. So we settle off our 3rd floor room onto the aft 'lanai'. Relaxing on bleached teak lawn recliners reading and dozing, sheltered but getting sun fortified. Laps: exercise is overrated". Todays slogan At 12:36 Dan nods to me. . . Salad bar? Yes please we each eat a bowl and share a delicious ziti.  Ambling to the pool to continue our sleepy bear impersonation.
